- Banpresto announced Super Robot Taisen DS for Nintendo DS, the latest work of the popular robot battle S.RPG, the game will be released sometimes in 2007.

we all know this was coming but at least there's a sometimes in 2007 :smart:

looking forward on using the stylus. i wonder what would the second screen is for

z2ei - November 16, 2006 11:29 PM (GMT)
We've known of this for..well..months now.

As far as the DS capabilities, what can you do with a game like SRW, without it being tedious?

TreIII - November 16, 2006 11:32 PM (GMT)
Personally, I'm expecting two screens to at least expand on the stuff that OGs is supporting: combined assaults across 2 screens!

But any way, other things that I think would be nice would be to see MechWarrior-esque chasis set-up screens, instead of the usual "upgrade and parts attachment" stuff we always get.

Otherwise...there's not much I think could be suggested without possibly tarnishing a good thing.

skyryder23 - November 17, 2006 12:03 AM (GMT)
haven't posted much...but...

Maybe they may put in something like what Advance wars had, where you could customize your own map, and you could send it to others and play head to head on them? That could be an interesting option...

QuattroBajina - November 17, 2006 12:56 AM (GMT)
I'm wondering if DS will have voice-overs.. I doubt it.. sigh.

z2ei - November 17, 2006 03:04 AM (GMT)
DS carts are bigger than GBA carts, so voice acting may happen. Depending on the size of the cast, anyway.

Elzam - November 17, 2006 03:44 AM (GMT)
Hope it will be OG3^_^.

Nuke Bazooka? - November 17, 2006 05:43 AM (GMT)
Any ideas on which engine Banpresto will use for the game? So glad I got a DS.

I'd prefer something closer to SRWMX (PSP engine) instead of a souped-up GBA engine.

Can't wait for massive mecha action in my pocket... :yahoo:

EDIT: Speculation FTW.

Seiryuga - November 17, 2006 06:05 AM (GMT)
Eh, probably the usual move the units along the map with the touch screen. You then can select the attacks and what not. Nothing too fancy.

IF it is OG3. Then the animation should be better than what SRWJ showcased.

shinG - November 17, 2006 06:08 AM (GMT)
I'm quite interested in what they'll do with the stylus and touchscreen. Hope it won't be JUST a 2nd screen.

Jin Rai - November 17, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
Great... I guess I'll have to get a DS now...

kazetenshii - November 17, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
I will have to buy DS to play it...

High chance, if you ever bothered playing the JPN version of Rockman ZX for DS you'd know the entire games dialogue was voiced

kazetenshii - November 17, 2006 01:05 PM (GMT)
hmm I wonder how the game will be... DS has split screen.... so maybe the visual will be.....

Up >>> Robot screen,hp,en, and etc...

Down>>> Will be the character screen...

This is what I think....

Kite Lanford - November 17, 2006 01:52 PM (GMT)
Hmm, then again, another option would be a seperate map itself... like how in MX there are underground and surface stages, the DS can give you info on both screens (which you can choose to fight on both fronts, or give AI orders) on where each machine is at the moment

kazetenshii - November 17, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)
so that is the split screen works....

It will be more feature for the DS SRW.. We will just wait and see...

shinG - November 17, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
I feel they should at least let the map/options be on the bottom screen and allow us to use the stylus to point and select the options, commands, where to move your units, etc. so that its like playing SRW with a cursor...

But actually i'm waiting for banpresto to suprise us with more innovative uses of DS. Hopefully.

Sirius74 - November 17, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
If anything, I can see them at least adding the map to the 2nd screen (Select button on SRT: OG for the GBA) during stages. :gba:

Darkslime - November 18, 2006 07:02 PM (GMT)
GGF-style battle maps would be a pretty cool addition, IMO. Then again, having a mini-map or status screens on the other screen would be nice, too... Agh, when you think about it, there's so many things they can do with this.

Gundamvid - November 18, 2006 09:14 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping they will mix some of the new modern mecha anime like Gravion, Godannar, or Eureka 7 mixed with some of the old classics.

I will be greatly impressed if they bring Wings of Rean or Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Itachimaru - November 18, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
Just sold my DS to get a psp, I was dissapointed with DS games -_-' i enjoyed more a Gameboy advance. hopefully when SRWDS is out there will be a DS emulator somewhere >:P

Malk - November 19, 2006 03:00 AM (GMT)
An interesting concept would be to use the mic of the DS, similar to its use in Phoenix Wright, where in that game you can choose to yell into it to Object.

Something like this as an option (emphasis on word "option") would be nice. Perhaps using it during an attack could increase a certain attribute, such as increased damage, hit rate, or chance for a critical. Or when used during the casting of for example Hot Blood, it could increase the chance of a Critical by a small percentage.

Of course, this function isn't all that good in the sense that particles of spittle, no matter how small at first, may accumulate over time (even by simply speaking close to the mic a bit). But wouldn't you like to be able to yell an attack (Gekigan Flare!) and gain some nice, spiffy benefit / different + cooler attack animation? ^_^

Next up is the use of the stylus and touch screen. I have mixed opinions about it, since I never really like to use it in excess (the whole fear of scratches etc come to mind), but it would be nice to be able to use it for more than just selecting map options. Can we use it *during* an attack? Will we able to select the enemy's hidden weak point, and hit it for Massive Damage? Or perhaps be able to defend or evade an attack better by using the stylus and moving it in certain ways (spinning it closely around your unit to defend better, or randomly zigzagging around the touch screen to evade more?). Or even use Sword Cut / shoot out missiles with the stylus to negate / decrease damage?

OG3 would probably be nice (I'm still on OG1, but I do like the characters and all), but I wouldn't mind more fun with other series' first, perhaps to fine tune the use of the DS? (Or maybe I just want more Nadesico / Gundam / FMP Fumoffu yummy goodness ^^).

z2ei - November 19, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
Honestly, I'd rather not have OG3 on the DS.

After having it on the console with Original Generations, going back to a handheld is a step down.

The DS will likely be used for "experimental" games and series like the GBA was.

Nuke Bazooka? - November 19, 2006 06:25 AM (GMT)
You guys realize this is just a way to make more money by expanding the franchise, right?

@Malk: Don't think anything that interesting will happen. This isn't WarioWare.

is really DS is not worthy to be owned?

I never play a DS before....

Evangelion - November 19, 2006 11:07 AM (GMT)
The DS is a perfectly good console with plenty of good games. In fact, I'd say it has a much better selection then the PSP.

Don't get your hopes up yet. I think the fact PSP emulators being further ahead than DS emulators says alot about how long you'd wait.

Anyone who says theres no games on DS isn't looking hard enough period. PSP's games consist of 80% downgraded ports and only a original game once in a blue moon, not to mention only having a library half the size of DS.

Syn13 - November 19, 2006 12:29 PM (GMT)
Here's how I would do SRW DS:
Touch Screen: Unit movement, menu selection thus faster way of caster senshins and etc. This opens a whole new gameplay system for Banpresto to design that stays original to the DS something like Digaea command option such as tactical movements first then "start operation" which does the all the attacks in the order the player chooses.
Top screen: All the DS graphic goodness!!!

Being a PSP guy first, I still would like this game to be more original to the strengths of the innovative DS capabilities. All I know is if this comes out on DS, my brother will be missing his DS for a while!!

A OG or mixed series is fine too.

Not knowing how big the games are for DS, I have no clue if there will be voices. DS should be able to pull it off being able to have over 100MB available.

PS. Playing OG & OG2 on my PSP kicks an awsome amount of ASS!
Indeed, I agree with Aussenseiter, the PSP is capable of pulling off some cool games but in the end, they are mostly ports. The DS has an array of genres that will keep any player busy and will always have something coming out soon enough.
For my PSP, I'm only waiting for a couple of games, most of the selection doesn't really interest me...

PSP emu won't do what i want the actual portable to do. >.> and thats to watch anime while in class, or play music while in test or play power stone! XD

Ds is an all right portable, but i liked the GBA alot more, i'm not that much of a fan for the touch screen and the mic on DS isn't THAT great. and probably, nintendo will make annother version of DS(Like ds light) by the end of next year they always upgrade their ds every.. 2-3 years xD Imo i think DS is a good portable to have but it's all matters of tastes in games. PSP has alot of ports from ps2 and thats a good thing for most of the part imo. I think one of my fav DS games was castlevania ;O

and about SRWDS, they should port a better version of SRWJ :smart:

Orochi Kusanagi - November 19, 2006 12:57 PM (GMT)
A port of a game that came out last year? That would suck... >>;;

I'd much rather have a new game.

Windy - November 19, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
I'm glad to hear this even though it is only a snippet.

I would also much rather Banpresto move away from this lazy habit of porting things all the time. Even though they have been doing it for years. Surely the DS and us fans deserve a fully brand new SRW, and I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'd rather see a more traditional SRW with all my favourite 70s robots in myself.

As much as I love the OG crew with being tha bit older than most I do have a special place in my heart for the 70s and 80s robots I grew up with. I'm missing using the Mazingers and the Getter of this world while humming along to familar music with my headphones on. I also hope there's some way of playing it at home pretty soon aswell like the GB player.

Indeed, they should have picked a SRW that had a couple of original characters to play like @2 or @3...can't really think of others. Atleast its a port but more play to it.

Lets look at a history of all the 'first' games that appeared on various consoles....

Sega Saturn had SRWF...although it follows a modified SRW4 story, it had lots of new stuff. A port+remake.
The first SRW to hit Playstation was SRW4S, a port. Although Shin SRW did follow closely after that.
DC had a port of alpha...
Wonderswan had a completely new game.
64 had a totally new game as well.
PS2's first SRW was a complilation of Compact 2. so its a port.
GBA started with SRWA, a new one.
GC had a new SRW too.
PSP had a port of MX.
XBOX360 is said to have a port of GC.

After viewing all of this, i have a conclusion...
Banpresto does not port old games onto a Nintendo console as its first game!!
Well, hopefully...

Seiryuga - November 20, 2006 09:07 AM (GMT)
pfft...It's banpresto, the defy all known patterns. I bet you they'll have grendizer and Mazinkaiser in the next game :p HURR!

Sorry but port != compilation remake. Impact is most definitely a new game.

Itachimaru - November 20, 2006 02:22 PM (GMT)
they should port SRW @ 1 and Gaiden for psp with improved graphics, new mechs and missions. xD

For DS i would love to see a new SRW that has sousei no aquarium, New getter robot, new Gaiking series, Gundam Seed Destiny, new Zeta Gundam movies Gundam Igloo :o oh yeah Mazinkaiser too xD i just hope this dream comes true

kazetenshii - November 20, 2006 02:34 PM (GMT)
thats mean DS also worthy to be owned.... now I get it.

for hard core gamers no console is unworthy to be owned.....

squall23 - November 20, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
kazetenshii, it's obvious that you missed the "convincing of Frost Winterheim to get a DS or PSP" thread. Anybody that hates Phoenix Wright or Trauma Centre or Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan obviously have never played it for more than 5 minutes. Sure, Gyakuten Saiban was originally for GBA, but that doesn't mean most North Americans have played it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Banpresto was smart, they'd put in Ganbarugar because it's run through Cartoon Network was quite successful.

Aussenseiter - November 21, 2006 07:48 AM (GMT)
I think the fact Phoenix Wright was so popular it forced Capcom to actually reprint the game and make it more available says alot about DS games in general. Plus make a sequel port and proper sequel game all at the same time.
